Software is just an Enabler

Software is considered a key asset for automotive – and it fills this role for sure. Meanwhile, probably all companies understood, that software will make a difference what customers consider as “value” and “quality”. Seamless integration of a vehicle in an ecosystem is therefore important and OEMs are the (future) curators of such ecosystems for developers and customers.
What we see today though, is not always supporting this. This presentation challenges 3 topics which I personally do not see adding much value. These are:

• Changing architectures without really changing them (moving ECUs inside one bigger box but keeping them as logical entities)
• OEM.OS is a waste of time and energy
• “Big is better” thinking is not helpful

This presentation will also talk about MOSA. It is an approach to curate an ecosystem in a distinct direction by leveraging opportunities and still saving cost and time.

• Service networks that facilitate customer retention
• Open Source as an enabler of building the required software
